Tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Simone. I’m 37 & I’m married with two daughters (Dymond / Dayoni).
When did you go back to natural?
June 9th, 2010 I began my journey. I transitioned from a relaxer to locs. I was hit in my left ear and went deaf. I had to wear a protective cap over my ear that looked like a turban. I had to have reconstructive surgery to make a new eardrum.
Did you do the BC or did you transitioned?
For months, I couldn’t wash or relax my hair. I decided to loc it & I just went for it!
What made you want to go back to being natural?
I started by 2 strand twisting my relaxed hair. I loved the coils I had after taking the twists out.
Did you tell anyone or did you just go for it?
My family did not like the 2 different textures as my new growth began to grow out. That really hurt my feelings in the beginning. Now just about all of the women in my family are natural.
Did your natural hair affect the dating scene for you?
I noticed that men look at me differently.
What is your hair regimen or do you have one?
I wash twice a month. Honestly, I use various shampoos. I twist my locs with the “serum” from fresh aloe vera plants, argan oil, and olive oil.
Do you think you will ever go back to relaxers & do you miss it?
I don’t think I’ll ever relax my hair again. When I want to switch up I wear wigs, but not for long.
Embrace your beauty even if you’re not wearing your hair natural..just be the devine you.
